Casa
Blanca Fishing Lodge sits on
Punta Pajaros, 120 miles south of Cancun, on the northern tip of Isla
Casa Blanca, a small coastal island in the western Caribbean. Here, at
the mouth of Ascension Bay, where the reef that divides the sea from the
bay begins to bend inshore, you will find the lodge's white buildings
clustered amid the palms on a white sand beach. It is as remote and pristine
a location as you will find in this hemisphere. Yet, to get to Casa Blanca,
it is only a short flight to Cancun, and a forty-five minute charter flight
down the Yucatan coast. Since the Caribbean is only 100 feet away, "a room with a view" is the only kind of room you will find. Rooms are large and well-appointed with tile floors, mahogany shutters and very spacious baths. In the main lodge you will find the bar, and a very accommodating bartender as well. After a full day on the water, it is a perfect place to relax and talk about the ones that did not get away. It
has been said that Casa Blanca has the world's largest population of permit.
As many as twenty have been boated in a single week (on the fly!). It
is not extraordinary to see within casting range twenty-five to fifty
permit in a single day. The fishing at Casa Blanca is suitable for any level of skill. The beginning saltwater angler will do well fishing among the schools of bonefish which run 2 to 6 pounds. More experienced fishermen can try for some of the bay's larger singles which run up to 15 pounds. These fish are a wary and formidable quarry requiring a shape eye and skilled cast. Still, they are there and definitely worth the extra effort. For variety, your guide might suggest trying for one of the dozen species of snapper or sight casting to barracuda or tarpon. But, at some point during the day, you will want to put your rod down, loosen your gaze a little and simply consider where you are... the empty horizon, not another soul in sight as you drift silently across the flats...and marvel at the immense expanse of sky and clouds. You are in Sian Kaan, the Mayan "birthplace of the sky." Sian Kaan is also the name of the one million acre nature reserve that surrounds and insulated Casa Blanca from the rest of the world. Bahamas
