Turneffe Island Lodge has been recognized for over three decades as one of the Caribbean’s top destinations for bonefish, tarpon and permit as well as a long list of other saltwater game fish. Saltwater anglers thrill in the challenge of chasing the difficult, prestigious "Grand Slam" — catching a bonefish, permit and tarpon all in one day.

Big schools of bonefish are commonly seen tailing on the wadeable flats of the Turneffe Atoll. Bonefish are also found in singles, doubles and small schools, tailing and cruising the wadeable flats as well as the thousands of acres of interior soft bottom flats. The "Golden Bonefish," (a rare golden colored bonefish) unique to the Turneffe Atoll area, provides anglers with an additional challenge.

Turneffe Island Lodge is one of the few flats fishing destinations in the world with consistent opportunities for catching shallow-water permit. The fish is considered by many to be the ultimate saltwater fly-rod challenge, and numerous anglers have scored their first permit catches while visiting the lodge.

While bonefish, permit and tarpon are the headliners, anglers find plenty of exciting challenges among other game fish. Most common are barracuda, snapper, jacks, snook, grouper, wahoo, tuna, and kings. This wide variety of species provides great sport-fishing for fly, light tackle or trolling.

Even if you don’t fish, dive or swim, the secluded tropical setting of Turneffe Island Lodge is enough to make you want to visit over and over again.

The lodge is the only resort on the 12-acre island, so there’s plenty of elbow room. In addition, there are only 12 guest rooms, all of which ring the perimeter of the island to catch the cool ocean tradewinds.

The cottages and facilities were built in the early 1960s. Though modernized in the mid-1990s, they have retained their original feeling of old Caribbean charm. Each cottage has ceiling fans, private baths and a screened verandah overlooking the Caribbean. Some rooms even have air conditioning. The view is one of total tranquillity — a few palm-tree islands in the distance and, except for the occasional passing sailboat, absolutely no sign of the fast-paced world left behind.
